RACAfest \'ra:ka-.fest\ A festival historically featuring rum and cooked animals but in the present day is more often celebrated with beer and burgers, metts or brats. (There's even been a vegetarian burger sighted upon occasion.) The celebration brings together people from all over the North American continent who are members of the Jimmy Buffett Listserv List.
In plain English, this is a celebration of the people who make up the Jimmy Buffett Listserv List. There will be plenty going on but most notably there will be drinking, eating, dancing, volleyball, door prizes and last but certainly not least..tons of memories and new friends to be made!

RACAfest'96

As the planning committee started the process of putting this event together, we didn't know what to expect. Would it work? Would people actually come to a party with people they'd never met? Could we make this thing fly?
Well, the unequivical answer was a resounding "YES" as we had over 70 list members attend.

The First RACAfest Golf Championship was won by Greg Deye. (Who also organized the tourney...). Participants were Greg Deye and Mike Bishop.
Thanks to our attendees, list members, and supporters we were able to donate $800 to the Fernside Center for Grieving Children. The check presentation was made at Fernside.
Jim Hoehn and Kevin Mulvenna also recorded a CD, "Live at RACAfest" and were kind enough to donate $1 for every CD sold to the Fernside Center for Grieving Children.
Thanks to our supporters in '96: Kathy Anderson, The Great Divide, Jim Hoehn, Peter Mayer, Kevin Mulvenna, Todd Snider, Greg "Fingers" Taylor, and R&R Meats and Grote Bakery (in Cincinnati).

RACAfest'97

The Planning Committee started the process again, hoping to have as good a result for RACAfest'97 as they had for '96. Some changes were instituted (hiring a caterer, CHEESEBURGERS, and many more door prizes) and the Golf Tourney had more participants. The extra day allowed us to celebrate that most American of all holiday, "The Fourth of July", together.
Jimmy Buffett even came to town during RACAfest Week. His show on the night of our kickoff party enabled many of our attendees to see one of Jimmy's show in the birthplace of the term, "Parrot Head".
One of our attendees, Julie Parker, was even selected to go on stage and "stump" Jimmy. Which she did, ensuring her of celebrity status for the rest of the weekend.
RACAfest'97 was a success to all that attended. The only drawback was the unseasonably cold night on July 5th, when RACAfest was held.

The 1997 RACAfest Golf Championship was again won by Greg Deye. (Who again organized the event.). Participants were Mike Bishop,Greg Deye, Evan Gordon, Jess Williams, and Chris Wilson. They were joined by "Tim, the Golf God, Kraus". Big Dog was supposed to play but wimped out, claiming a hangover.
Thanks to our attendees, list members, and supporters we were able to donate $620.00 to the Fernside Center for Grieving Children. Jim Hoehn and Kevin Mulvenna also made another donation of $100 from sales of their CD, "Live at RACAfest".
RACAfest'97 had many, many supporters in '97. The listmembers who supported us with a donation were: Jeanetta Adkins, Kathy Anderson, KC Angel, Bo Baber, Michael Bolton, Mark and Marya Bolynatz, Drew Commins, Greg and Shannon Deye, John T. Frost, Dale Greer, Chris Hamilton, Chris Jarrell, Bryan Jones, Bill and Linda Lack, Joe McKibben, Kathy Shedd, and Drew and Tonna Warren.
Musical and Entertainment supporters were also very kind to us in '97.

One can't say enough about what Jim Hoehn and Kevin Mulvenna have done to make this event successful. Not only have they driven down from Milwaukee to entertain us for two years, they are an active part in making sure that the event is successful, by donating items to be given away at the event and giving our event lots of free publicity. Big thanks from everyone involved with RACAfest to Jim and Kevin. They're wonderful people and darn entertaining besides.
Also thanks, for the second year in a row, to R&R Meats and Grote Bakery, in Cincinnati, for their donations to RACAfest.

RACAfest'99

The RACAfest committee has decided to take a year off. There 
will be no "official" RACAfest held in '99. 

There is talk of a small "RACA-lite" which will probably be held in 
August in Cincinnati.
