Bill and Linda

My wife, Linda, and me at the Half Shell Raw Bar in Key West.

Books I love books. I don't think that money spent on books is often wasted. My wife and I are both constant readers and you can tell this by coming into our house, as you'll generally find books laying around our house, sometimes in piles. It's probably my biggest hobby. I'll read fiction, non-fiction, sports, just about anything that I can get my hands on. I guess mystery/action/adventure stories are my current favorites.

Some of my favorite authors are Larry McMurtry ("Lonesome Dove"), Tom Clancy ("Red Storm Rising"), James Grisham ("A Time To Kill"), and John D. McDonald (Any of the Travis McGee Series).

I have recently become acquainted with Rick Riordan and his "Tres Navarre" character, which has a nice Buffett tie-in (and he gave RACAfest and my old Buffett list a nice plug in his book, "The Devil Went Down to Austin". I recommend Rick's books also.

I used to really enjoy the Spenser novels by Robert B. Parker, and still do read them, but don't think they're nearly as much fun as they used to be. Spenser's just gotten to be too "nice".

Music My musical tastes have always been fairly mainstream. Lately though, I've found myself enjoying more of what I call the "Texas country" sound than pop.

Some musicians that I've found myself listening to recently are:

I've been lucky enough to meet some of these people and not only are they extremely talented, they're great people and if you get the chance to see any of them perform.... do yourself a favor and get out and support them. I guarantee that you won't be sorry.

Support Smaller Clubs.... Huge Venue Music is the Pits!!!

Sports I'm also a big sports fan. It's easy for me to be, because Linda is a big sports fan also. I am the listowner of the Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals Listserv Lists and at one time we've had season tickets to the Bengals and to Xavier University Basketball. The only reason we don't have them now is that it's gotten too expensive for our budget and too difficult to do with a child in school.

Vacation We work to live in our family (rather than vice versa). The high point of our year, every year, is our vacation. Generally, we go to Florida at some point in the summer...if we're lucky for a couple of weeks.
Here are some of our favorite spots:
  • Siesta Key, which is very close to Sarasota.
  • Key West

The next place I'd like to go is to New Orleans. I haven't been there in over 15 years and Linda's never been there.....so that's probably our next "grownup" trip. Another trip we're considering is a musical pilgramage to the mecca of the current music I'm listening to...Austin, Texas.

Politics I'm becoming more and more disgusted by the bias of the media and their "anti-Americanism".

Work I work in the Instrumentation Laboratory at Miami University
